Week 11, review 10

Review of Week 10:

Scent-work Eh. A couple of sessions. Out of about 5-7 reps, he had one obvious sniffing, and ended with lying down and offering a chin target (on the wrong lid). Other times he follows my hands, or just continues with the one he was marking. I need to go deeper into the Hows on this one.

Tricks – Made a video of his crawl. We are working to fade the lure. Doing something about the bunny jump will come later…

Rally – Sit/stay, spiral, single slalom. Outside in the driveway. Not exactly tight heel, but I’m proud he stayed with me despite the horrid weather.

Working the Wobble Board – jackpot every time it moves, and lots of praise for his courage. He is slightly cautious, but doing very well, I think.

Toy – some cone wraps for ducky. Hard on my fingers, and a click confused him completely. Worked some toy retrieve outside, w frisbee. Starting to look better on a physical cue.

TEAM 1, exercise 2. His finishes are getting lovely. Sure, I can fiddle with exact position, but I’m not sure it’s worth the extra effort. Done a session with a cone in front, rather than a platform, to work on the moving into position part.

Social work. A trip to Valestrand to weigh him at the vet’s (33 kg, I may need to put some effort into managing his calories…) with a little bit of socialisation added. He lunged once, but I got him away from the situation. Otherwise he did very nicely. The next time the person passed us, Fenris was too busy with his nose to the grass (loads of scents outside the vet’s office – maybe there’s been animals there before??!! Imagine that!) to care.

On our walks we’ve been working on See!, treat-treat-treat.. + Free!, and resting. By the lake up in the mountain, where loads of people have passed before, he managed a maximum of 7 second Down… Just goes to show we need to work it.

In moments like that, I catch myself thinking, “I wish I’d focused much more on this when he was a puppy!” And then I remember I did the best I could with the knowledge and experience I had – and I vow to do a hell of a lot better next time, if there is a next time.

Plan of week 11

2 conscious outings.

Bike

Team1.2 – The exercise only requires a 45deg angle, but I want to work on coming in from behind, in addition to start working the chain of exercises 1 and 2.

Agility – Back cross, the Wrap movement. Cone work directionals.

Awesome obedience – continue with the Retrieve and toy rewards. Increasing to 5 steps and a turn.

CANIS – 2x recalls (family game), 2x target (nose target to lids, as prep for agility contacts and scent markings), 1x down (on platform, -> beside me)

Handling – nails on his front right, handling gums. Lifting hind feet.

Door and car zen.

Practice See and Free daily.

Continue the outside work on settling.

Rally – 270 L + 90 R + 360 R. Work on tight turns and fading treats.

Tricks

The new Challenge III is to start a trick from the advanced module, and show a video of training it – and a written component describing current and next criteria.

Shopping

Indoor jump / cones and sticks – or H-jump. Still haven’t made up my mind.
